zotero & the Internet Archive

It’s enough to make my poor little head spin…This is wonderful, and my guess is that a huge percentage of scholars will ignore the chance to dive in and participate.

(I have to say that I am torn between Zotero and Refworks, because I can use Refworks from any computer that is linked to the web and Zotero files rest on the machine, but Zotero is open source and Refworks is licensed so one must be affiliated with an institution to use it.)

I’m not even sure why I find this so fascinating, as I haven’t written a scholarly paper in decades.

The whole thing…Open Content, tagging, creating bibliographies from worldcat or amazon searches, LibraryThing for goddess’ sake…it’s amazing.

    Hi there!

Thanks for taking a look at my site. I have similar issues with Zotero that you do (e.g. local access opposed to web-based).

But I believe that Zotero will eventually make it available via OpenID or some kind of log in. I’d actually bet they’re working on their databases and interface right now to get that up and going.

I find RefWorks to be clumsy and somewhat unintuitive. I’ve also been burned by it: I used the RefWorks grab it button on over 20 docs only to find later that they were never saved. Madness ensued.

We are more and more apart of a digital community that is willing to share and help. Zotero gets that and wants to provide a much needed free service. God knows that the brethren court of APA and MLA will never make their citations styles easier.

    Come by and visit often!
    ~Kyle~
