swimming in cyberspace

Today was a little weird. I brought my laptop to campus because I thought I might get some reading for LIS:768 done The links and lists are neverending and I am sucking it in like a sponge. I haven’t gotten a response from Michael Stephens yet…I suppose it doesn’t matter. It’s not like I can actually participate in the class. I already have 2 blogs, this one and Journey of a kitten. I have an RSS aggrogator already. I don’t have a flikr account, but I’m ont very good with pictures…I will look into it.

I realized that I screwed up when I sent the link to this blog (which I consider my class blog) because blogger and wordpress do things differently…

Used my laptop to take notes in the LSD/PSED meeting. Laura talked about one type of Open Source portal software and Lisa talked about User Ed and LIBGUIDES…then Meredith talked about wikis and I am trying to absorb all the new technology and changes (and nagging the IT folks to get the new gateway page up (the old one sucks, big time).

One of the questions for Meredith was what classes did she wish she had been able to take when she was in grad school. Her list was in some ways very obvious and in some ways quite revealing:

social software
emerging technologies
strategies for keeping up
marketing
project management

These are things that weren’t taught when I was in grad school because most of them didn’t even exist as topics in education at the time.
