I want a do over for the weekend. Thursday I had a panic attack. WARNING: TMI alert! I had beets and spinach for lunch and aver lunch my bowel movement was bright red… after I got over my panic attack, I realized that beets can do that. Fine. However, when this was still happening Friday morning I started making phone calls, because of the colonoscopy I had on April 26.
Neither my diabetes educator nor my nutritionist was in. (So I couldn’t ask about beets.) My gastroenterologist (the guy who did the colonoscopy) was not in. The convenient care line was busy. None of the nurses would get back to me. I finally called the emergency room and poured my heart out to the switchboard operator who finally got me in touch with a nurse in gastroenterology who talked to the doctor on call who said come to the emergency room…
Went to the emergency room and got examined by an intern, who turned me over to the resident in charge who admitted me. They filled me full of IV glucose to keep my blood sugar up and gave me 2 units of blood. Apparently, there is something called “delayed bleeding” that can happen sometime in the 8-10 day range after a colonoscopy if they have to remove polyps.
(Please note: the entire time this was happening, I felt great) I have no complaints about my stay in the hospital (it was just overnight). TC wouldn’t let me go out and take care of my weekend chores on Saturday by myself, so I drug him to Borders to get presents for my garduating seniors (Monday was our end of year celebration.)
Sunday, I went to the grocery store to pick up supplies for the party and decided to take them over to the library so I wouldn’t have to deal with it on Monday. As I was taking the bags in I tripped over the curb, scratched a huge scratch into my glasses, scraped my forehead, right hand and both knees and my neck still hurts…didn’t go to work Monday, so I missed the festivities but I am here today.
Hopefully, this is the end of my clutziness and bad luck for the month.
